On March 28th, representatives from 3TC’s outreach, design, and construction teams were present to answer residents’ questions about the Covert Avenue Grade Crossing Elimination Project and ongoing construction activities to Covert Avenue area residents in the Village of New Hyde Park. 3TC updated residents about Covert Avenue construction progress, design plans and planned traffic detours, and gave attendees information about other project elements within New Hyde Park.
The Covert Avenue grade crossing is being eliminated and reconstructed to provide a two-lane grade-separated underpass with a pedestrian sidewalk on the east side of the underpass. This reconstructed grade crossing has been designed in conjunction with the Village of New Hyde Park and will enhance safety and provide for a quieter and more livable community along the railroad.
