We are distanced, but not distant. Since construction began in 2018, the project team has been hosting monthly meetings with Mayors, Town officials and their representatives at the Community Information Center in Mineola. With social distancing requirements making this group meeting impractical, MTA C&D has taken the monthly “Mayors’ Meeting” to the internet via Microsoft Teams. Most recently on April 23, elected officials and community leaders joined the LIRR Expansion Project leadership team for a virtual project update and Q&A session.
The 9.8-mile project corridor spans multiple localities, and this inter-jurisdictional monthly forum has been crucial to the communications initiative of the project. While COVID-19 has required changes to our daily operations, it hasn’t stopped our open lines of communication.
MTA C&D Deputy Project Executive Tom McGuinness, Community Outreach Manager Leslie Mesnick and 3TC Outreach Director Travis Brennan provided community leaders with a comprehensive construction update, including a virtual tour of the recent progress made at several project locations.
The community outreach team also remains active through 3TC’s 24/7 Hotline, Community Ambassador team notifications to residents and businesses of upcoming work, email blasts and website updates. Additionally, MTA C&D’s Richard Mulieri attends virtual village and town board meetings to identify any community concerns.
The quarterly Community Scorecard has also shifted to an online platform and the results for the first quarter’s survey is currently being tabulated.
