An Arctic blast, straight from the Great White North, recently hit Long Island, but it didn’t stop crews from getting the recently enhanced Ronkonkoma Station and the renovated Hicksville Station building gussied up for the holidays! The weather is brisk, but the mood has become decidedly festive: lampposts have been wrapped, bright red bows have been clipped into place and wreaths have been hung from station entrances. The halls have been decked!
With the holidays upon us, approximately 21,500 weekday customers at Hicksville and the approximately 15,000 weekday LIRR customers at Ronkonkoma will enjoy a bit more sparkle at their stations. It’s the most wonderful time of the year, as you can see from these videos and photos – all guaranteed to get you in the holiday spirit!
Construction was completed at Hicksville Station in August 2018. With more than 21,500 customers using Hicksville Station each weekday, Long Island’s busiest train station is a central and critical hub for LIRR customers. Improvements to this station enable improved and more reliable train service to and from Hicksville and a better customer experience. The Hicksville Station renovation included: the replacement of the 12-car elevated platforms outfitted with new translucent canopies and associated drainage systems, new heated platform waiting rooms and energy-efficient LED platform lighting. Two new elevators and two new staircases have been added to improve platform access, while existing escalators and staircases have been completely replaced. Platforms feature new security and communication systems, new signage, new art glass and other enhancements that improve the overall customer experience. Ronkonkoma LIRR Station has received enhancements, including the addition of free public Wi-Fi, LCD display screens, wayfinding signage, new benches and an electronic information display column. With the completion of the Double Track Project from Ronkonkoma to Farmingdale, Ronkonkoma Station is integral to accommodating increases in ridership, and these enhancements have been added to the station to improve customer experiences and contribute to economic growth throughout Long Island and the region.
