How Sweep It Is! 3TC’s Street Sweeper Goes the Extra Mile

3TC’s Street Sweeper January 2020

Look what’s been making its way around the project corridor: it’s our very own street sweeper! Aimed at cleaning streets from dust and debris caused by construction on the LIRR Expansion Project, the branded AModernLI street sweeper is making its rounds through the project-adjacent communities to keep streets clear of dirt and debris, helping maintain community quality-of-life for residents. Consistent with community commitments developed in close coordination with the project-adjacent neighborhoods, street sweeping has taken place regularly since the project began.

Thanks to some colorful, branded shrink wrap, the sweeper recently got a dramatic makeover. And since the upgraded vehicle made its debut at the Nassau Boulevard Bridge Replacement weekend back in October 2019, we’ve seen an uptick in questions…Where does it go? Does it run on a schedule? Who drives it? How does it work? How much waste does it collect? We’ll be talking to folks in charge of the sweeper, so stay tuned for all those details and more! In the meantime, keep an eye out for the project street sweeper in your neighborhood!

The LIRR Expansion Project team holds true to its community commitments, developed comprehensively during planning phase, through close coordination with residents and local organizations. Among these commitments are the implementation of robust environmental programs focused on minimizing dust, debris, noise and vibration during construction. Street cleaning throughout the project corridor is a positive example of those commitments in action.

About the LIRR Expansion Project

The construction of a third track from Floral Park to Hicksville will reduce train congestion and delays and enable true bi-directional service during peak hours with a more reliable rail network. This transformative work includes several related projects, including accessibility improvements, the removal of eight street-level grade crossings, the construction of parking garages, the installation of retaining and sound walls and improvements to rail bridges. Construction is being managed to minimize the impact on daily routines, with extensive mitigation and public outreach efforts in local communities.
