LIRR Expansion Project Team Facilitates “Open for Business” Workshop with Covert Avenue Chamber of Commerce

On April 11th, the LIRR Expansion Project team facilitated an “Open for Business” workshop with the Covert Avenue Chamber of Commerce to discuss ideas to implement during the temporary closure of Covert Avenue. Business owners had the opportunity to ask project representatives questions about the road closure, while the project team had a chance to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges facing these businesses along Covert Avenue during construction.

Extensive coordination between the project team and business owners will continue throughout the closure of Covert Avenue and the duration of construction. The meeting ended in a show of unity, with members of the Covert Avenue Chamber of Commerce and the LIRR Expansion Project team holding an “Open for Business” banner that will hang over Covert Avenue during construction.

Project Ambassadors have been out in force to inform the community of what they can expect during construction and to address concerns. The project is expected to be completed and the roadway reopened to traffic by the end of 2019.
