LIRR Expansion Project Team Presents at Westbury Business Improvement District Annual Meeting

On June 25th, the LIRR Expansion Project team presented at the Westbury Business Improvement District (BID) Annual Meeting. The presentation discussed the synergy between the Village of Westbury’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative and the project’s new parking facilities and planned enhancements to the Westbury LIRR Station. BID members were generous with their praise for the Design-Build Contractor 3rd Track Constructors’ aesthetic considerations and its “Open for Business” program.

As part of the LIRR Expansion Project Floral Park to Hicksville, Westbury Station will receive a number of improvements, including: platform replacement to accommodate the new third track; platform canopies; new platform furnishings and accoutrements including benches, shelters and signage; CCTV security cameras to improve safety; an extension of the Westbury Station pedestrian tunnel; ADA-compliant mobility improvements including elevators, ramps and overpasses; Wi-Fi; USB charging stations; digital information displays, and a low-maintenance pocket park near Post Avenue. The interior and exterior of the station building will be renovated, and new bike racks and artwork will be installed.

In conjunction with the LIRR Expansion Project, upgrading Westbury Station is important to accommodate a future increase in ridership. Enhancements to Westbury Station are part of a broader LIRR initiative to strengthen the reliability and resiliency of LIRR infrastructure and to support the growth and development of Long Island and the region.
