The LIRR Expansion Project team provided the Carle Place School Board with a project update and answered residents’ questions about current construction activities in and around Carle Place.

Carle Place has its own school district which includes small portions of the villages of Westbury and Mineola. It comprises three schools which adjoin each other on one large campus:

  • Cherry Lane School, a primary school serving grades K-2
  • Rushmore Avenue School, an elementary school serving grades 3-6
  • Carle Place Middle School/High School, a secondary school serving grades 7-12

The presentation to the Carle Place School Board is part of a larger LIRR Expansion Project initiative to keep all Expansion Project-adjacent communities apprised of construction on the project as it progresses and to answer any questions residents might have about the project. Ongoing community outreach efforts also include coordination with local elected officials and soliciting input on the aesthetics of components such as stations and sound walls. Substantial construction began in late 2018, with overall project completion expected by late 2022.
