One of the construction industry’s most prestigious trade magazines has selected Tom McGuinness as one of its Top 25 Newsmakers for 2020 citing his leadership on the LIRR Expansion Project. Engineering News Record (ENR) accompanied the selection with a profile in its current issue.
The article notes that McGuinness and his team worked closely with the design-build contractor and local villages and towns to overcome challenges in adding a 10-mile stretch of third track along the railroad’s Main Line from Floral Park to Hicksville.
Also noted in the story is McGuinness’ three decades working on projects with agencies such as the New York State Department of Transportation on highways and bridges, including the new Mario M. Cuomo bridge.
Thanks in large part to his oversight, the LIRR Expansion Project is on time and on budget, an especially noteworthy achievement with the additional challenges posed by the COVID pandemic. McGuinness says he spends much of his time working in the joint office with the project management team and the design-builder, but admits he’d “rather be working in the mud and playing with the equipment.”
