The Meadowbrook substation, located in Freeport Yard on the Babylon Branch, will be replaced as part of the LIRR Modernization Program. Substations are integral components of the rail infrastructure system that provide power to the trains and will ultimately support future growth of the LIRR. Construction at Meadowbrook substation is currently ongoing and is anticipated to be completed in 2020. The Meadowbrook substation replacement is part of a larger initiative to enhance service reliability and support system expansion throughout the LIRR, and ultimately support the growth and development of Long Island.
