The rehabilitation of the Rockville Centre Viaduct is underway.
Deterioration along the joints of the viaduct are being restored to its original condition, in stages, so the project doesn’t interfere with pedestrian movements and to minimize its impact on commuter parking. Drainage troughs are being installed at all expansion joints to direct water away from pedestrian walkways, and cracks on the underside of the viaduct deck, and on the columns, are being power-washed and sealed.
Viaduct columns are being inspected for deterioration. Dirt and loose concrete are being cleaned from exposed reinforcement, which will be coated with epoxy paint to halt any additional corrosion of the steel.
